Option 1. Obtain Vietnam Embassy Visa

Normally, the visa procedure, fee and required documents to apply for visa at Vietnam embassy would vary from embassy to embassy. Following is just the typical procedure to obtain a visa via embassy of Vietnam.

  • How to apply:

    To apply for Vietnam visa, one will need to follow 3 steps as follows:

    1. Travel to the embassy and wait there to submit visa application documents;
    2. Pay for visa fee after being confirmed all required documents are received;
    3. Come back home and wait;
    4. Travel again to the embassy on the appointment date to receive visa and passport back.
  • Required documents:

    Normally, those who apply for visa at Vietnam Embassy are required to submit:

    1. Hard copy of the application form provided by the embassy itself;
    2. Original passport;
    3. Travel tickets;
    4. Hotel booking voucher.
  • Visa Fees:

    When using the visa via embassy, you only need to make one payment only. However, the visa fee charged by the embassy would vary from one to one. So, if you wish to obtain this kind of visa, you should directly contact the embassy for details.

  • Applicable travelers

    All Chinese passport holders traveling to Vietnam by any means of transport from any country can apply for visa via Embassy.

Option 2. Obtain Vietnam Visa on Arrival

This is an alternative but convenient way to obtain a visa to Vietnam for Chinese citizens. Instead of traveling back and forth from the embassy, travelers will only need an internet-connected device to complete their application with this option.

  • How to Apply:

    It is very simple to apply for a Vietnam visa on arrival for Chinese citizens. Its entire procedure is summarized in 4 steps as follows:

    1. Submit online application for Vietnam visa.
    2. Pay for service fee via online portals (Paypal, OnePay, Visa or Mastercard).
    3. Get visa approval letter within 1 or 2 working days .
    4. Get Visa stamped upon arrival at Vietnam airport
  • Required documents:

    When applying for visa on arrival, Chinese citizens do not need to provide any documents but information to fill out the online form.

  • Visa fee:

    When using visa on arrival, travelers will need to pay to kinds of fee:

    1. Service fee: to be paid online to the travel agent (Vietnam-visa.cn) to process visa approval letter with the Vietnam Immigration Department;
    2. Stamping fee: to be paid in cash to the Immigration Officer at Vietnam airport to get visa stamped.

    Only Chinese passport holders who fly to Vietnam from countries other than China mainland can use this kind of visa.

Determine the best way to obtain Visa

At the moment, there are two available ways to obtain a visa for Vietnam.

  1. Apply for Vietnam visa on Arrival; and
  2. Apply for visa at Vietnam Embassy.

If you travel to Vietnam by air and your nationality is supported with visa on arrival, then the former one is highly recommended for convenience.  However, if your nationality is not supported with visa on arrival or you do not travel to Vietnam by air or you wish to obtain a full visa before departure for Vietnam, the latter one should be selected.
